Lyrics from all over the place (namely, two lines from two garbage songs, and lines from PJ Harvey's Good Fortune. I am tremendously lazy and basically copied entire sections of my application here. .. Yep. ]

Threw my bad fortune off the top of a tall building;
I'd rather have done it with you
Geoffrey Gast had, after attending university, begun his employment in the Shinra Science Department. An exceptional and brilliant young man, it took him five years to reach a position just beneath that of Department Head, and a year after that to actually lead Shinra’s Science Department. He was twenty-nine when, after having spent the night in the lab, he overhead the assistants discussing a sit-down strike that was occurring just outside the building.
Gast was a scientist, and a scientist with his curiosity piqued. During his lunch break, he headed down to watch the city’s police struggling to disband the very peaceful group of young adults, most bearing signs denouncing Shinra’s pollution and extremely not environmental friendly practices. Amused, he watched, and was startled as a young woman marched up to him, and judging him based on his lab coat with the Shinra logo, began to lecture him about the rubbish dumping in the nearby ocean. Needless to say, it was love at first sight. He promised to look into it if she’d go to dinner with him. Over dinner he discovered her name was Ifalna, she was twenty-five, and she liked snow and flowers much too much, which she noted, really put her in a hard place.
Roughly a year later they were married, and ten months later Ifalna gave birth to her daughter, Aerith. The family lived peacefully, despite receiving occasional publicity due to Gast’s position and Ifalna’s being a steadfast environmentalist. As Gast was an intolerable workaholic, he was not as often home as he would have liked, despite being devoted to his wife and daughter. If work was ever tiring, coming home to them made it worthwhile, made life worth living. Aerith was very close to Ifalna, following the woman around and imitating her in everyway right up until the day she died. It was a natural death, as natural as illness could be. There was a virus running through Midgar and Ifalna was unfortunate enough to catch it. She died quickly. Aerith was seven.
Gast, destroyed, hired nannies and threw himself frenetically into his job. After three months he cracked, suffering a minor nervous breakdown. The company forced him to take an extended vacation. Gast slumped about at home for three months, and began working again with a very much diminished work performance for another three. Aerith, no less depressed, took it considerably better. After sobbing for nearly two weeks straight, and sitting in her mother’s closet all day and night, she began to reflect on the person her mother was, and what she wanted. Eventually, Aerith was eight, fed up, and missing her father. While he was staring at a book upside down in his lap, she pulled the book away and told him to stop being stupid, that mom wouldn’t want him to be sad.
An eight-year-old telling one off does a trick like no other. Gast went out more. His work performance picked up, the tabloids exploded with Gast’s change from human skeletal zombie to actual person, and he took walks for leisure with his daughter. On one these walks, he met Elmyra Gainsborough looking for a lost earring in the grass. Both father and daughter helped her find it. They met again, also accidentally, a week later. After that, it seemed very convenient to Aerith that dad always wanted to walk at a certain time, and that Elmyra always happened to be walking also. Elmyra was in her mid-thirties and considered by most she knew as an old maid, though perfectly content with it, if a little lonely. Geoffrey and Elmyra began to see more and more of each other. Five months after they had first met, they began to date, however tentatively. Two years later they married. Aerith was perfectly thrilled to be the flower girl, unconvinced that eleven was too old and she’d be a better bridesmaid. She knew, of course, that Ifalna would be happy to have Geoffrey happy.
Aerith was not a lonely child and did make friends easily, being personable and very cheerful. She befriended Zhi Huo Tseng when few would because of his race, finding that to be the dumbest thing ever. What if she was different? Would she want that treatment? No! As Aerith prepared for secondary school, Gast began to suffer more stress at work. The clearly jealous Hojo was making insidious attempts to cause the Head of the Science Department trouble – essentially, make him look incapable and inefficient. Funds disappeared. Gast kept patient as certainly Hojo was champ at being friendly to his face. Aerith was in her third year of secondary school and sixteen when Gast suffered a heart attack while working and died. Distressed, she skipped a week of school before Elmyra forced her to resume attending. Aerith mourned; life has its way of going on.
Elmyra and Aerith had grown close over the years, and quite easily, as Aerith was welcoming person and easy enough to get along with. Elmyra easily considered her as her daughter, and Aerith did call her mom, though she did remember who her real mom was and love her no less in death. The one piece of actual store-bought jewelry she wears is a locket that was once Ifalna’s, which opens to a picture of Ifalna on one side and Gast on the other. When it came time to either find a profession or go on with schooling, Aerith was interested in continuing her education, having inherited much of her father’s curiosity. Riding on the coattails of her father’s very well-known name though he no longer lived, Aerith was able to apply to Squenix University.
Like a gypsy you dance in circles;
All around me and all over the world
Aerith is the girl who never quite grew out of loving pink, and sees absolutely nothing wrong with it. At her core, Aerith has good-intentions, however, she tends to put herself first. A person very much rules by her own emotions and wants, perhaps due to being an only child, she tends to rush ahead before considering the effects of her actions and words on other people. Therefore, despite those good attentions, because of moving for her own sake, she occasionally hurts them. She is, in this way, dense to the feelings of others, especially when she is more concerned with her own.
She is very easily cheerful, having been taught by Ifalna that one must always keep a bright face and be sturdy, because tears and depression accomplish nothing but a bad feeling. This is not to say she is never depressed, only that Aerith struggles to keep that sort of thing to herself. While distressed by the loss of her parents, she is also the type of person that, as influenced by her mother’s words, could never let it beat her completely down. One of the things Aerith prizes most is living, and there’s no point if it’ll be in misery over something that cannot be changed. She lives for the present moment, and will not allow herself to be hung up by the past, except to learn from it.
Aerith is a very open person, but only about shallow things. While she will tell you her favorite hobbies and books on first meeting you, or that she finds you cute, she won’t tell you how her mother died and how much it hurt. If she finds someone attractive, she WILL flirt. Of course, she will also ask if they are otherwise attached first, and will often flirt teasingly – in other words, not expressing a serious interest in someone, but just for fun. Aerith, while being physically weak – oh, does she bruise easy! – is completely unwilling to seem emotionally weak. Even when particularly troubled by something, she tries to keep it to herself, and solve it herself.
When her curiosity is piqued, very little can stop her. She can be very driven when she chooses to be, and headstrong as well. Do you look familiar? She won’t hardly sleep until she figures out why. Aerith does like to learn, but she is easily distracted by those small curiosities, and so it is an effort for her to sit down and interest herself enough in the subject at hand.
Aerith loves to talk, and has a bright if occasionally twisted sense of humor. Her openness extends to her mind, where most things go. She finds little wrong with perverted things, despite her seeming naiveté, and in fact is often amused by it as boys are by toilet humor (which, ironically, she finds gross). Aerith was indeed sheltered as a girl, and is naïve, but things of a perverted nature were ruined for her in secondary school. She is not so perverted in practice, having a rather purist idea about love being connected with sex. She has not yet found Mr. Right, but nor is she actively seeking him, having better things to do. She likes to think of herself as independent, and in many ways she is, certainly never would she allow a man to boss her around. But Aerith is also more naïve and ignorant of life’s harsher than realities than she would ever admit to being.
She is cursed with extremely wonky allergies. Finding herself allergic to a number of the chemicals used in food to preserve, texture, or flavor it, Aerith has out of habit come to eat mostly greens, being something of a vegetarian from necessity. Besides, she doesn’t like the way meat tastes. She does, however, have a weak spot for chocolate.
You've got to learn to love yourself
Just barely making 5'3 Aerith is not a girl of impressive stature; nor is she so small as to seem dainty or fragile. Rarely looking morose, Aerith might be said to possess a kind of approachability; loving to smile and having no particular physical characteristic that might ward people off, except perhaps a fondness for pink. She is quite feminine, and so, attentive to her appearance except when it comes to her rather atrocious nails - a passion for gardening leading them to frequently be blacked by dirt - her hair, light brown in hue, is long and full, with bangs often curled. However, they don't really need it; her hair being wavy, the bangs tend to have a curl whether she accentuates it with an iron or not. She keeps her hair either loose, or pulled into a snug twist or braid; its length is pretty standard at a few inches below her waist, except for her bangs, and segments near the front which twist by her shoulders. Having gotten over the teenage plague of spots a few years back (and her only junk food really being the occasional dive into chocolate, easily warding them off after), her complexian is generally clear, and is a peach if not rosy color. Aerith's eyes are green, though leaning more to the blue-green side of the spectrum. While thin, she is not proportionately curvaceous; having large hips, she does not also have a large bosom. Aerith loves skirts and dresses, though tends to choose comfort over style. She has something of an irrational vendetta against anything that would hurt her feet, and so shies away from heels, instead being attached to a very old pair of boots. They're brown, practical, and very comfortable. Her favorite color is pink, and so much of her wardrobe is comprised of it, but not entirely.
